Name: Grace Robertson Alias: Gracie Age: 22 Birthday: 30th July Gender: Female Species: Human Social Class: Middle Class Job/Position: Inn keeper Sexual Preference: Straight
Hair: Long, slightly wavy deep red hair. Eyes: Hazel-Green Height: 5' 3" Weight: 130
Tough, caring and a temper to match her hair; Grace is your typical Victorian lady in every sense, knows her manners and polite conversation, but when you run an Inn, you also learn some other more colourful language and how to stand up for yourself. She is known as the land lady with a bite, and most of the locals know better than to start anything in her pub, but you get the odd idiot, drunk and newcomer who cross her and feel her wrath. And what a wrath it is, she maybe slight but she gets them out of her establishment, with some help from the locals, throws them some insults of her own, and then embarrass them in the street. The locals love it, find it hilarious and a source of great entertainment and also the profits soar on nights like that.
She is also someone who has a strong maternal instinct, and with no children of her own, Grace tends to try and help those around her. The prostitutes that frequent her premises, she tries to look out for, see who they go off with and if she knows they are someone of a poor nature, Grace will check up on them and even let them have a place to stay if needs be, with some bread to snack upon. The same would go for any poor wretch that were to come in, especially the younger generations, street urchins she will give some food and point them in the direction of the nicer orphanages in the area. If she could she would invite them all in, feed them, clothe them, bathe them and give them a place to stay, but she has a business to run and her own mouth to feed before those around her. Times maybe on the way up for the country, but the social divide is getting wider and wider and even Gracie is feeling the pinch.
Grace is also a person who appreciates some time to herself, for a woman she is quite educated, being brought up in the middle classes her parents schooled her until her 14th birthday and she had an aptitude for mathematics and the classics. This has helped her run her business ever since her Louis passed 2 winters ago, the finances didn't phase her and she always had helped with the paperwork anyway when Louis was busy downstairs with customers.
Grace was the youngest of five children in her family, with 3 older brothers and one older sister. She was doted upon by her family, being the baby, and her brothers were and still are very protective of her. Her sister, the eldest, married when Grace was 6 years old and never saw much of her sister from that moment. The odd visit here and there, but she was always closer to her brothers.
Thomas, only 3 years her elder, was her best friend and even now him and Richard are locals in her pub, watching out for her. But her and Thomas were inseparable as children and she was very upset when he left school and began his training as a clerk with their father, John. She immersed herself in her studies, especially maths, and began to enjoy solitary pastimes like sewing and knitting, which she learned from her mother, Sarah.
Although she enjoyed school, she wasn't the best behaved pupil. The dunces cap would see her at least once a week and nearly every day she would receive a crack from the cane. Time and time again she was told she was an insolent child, because she would express her opinions and a lady did not do such things.
It was at school she met her Louis, son of an innkeeper and the most wonderful person she had ever met. Their friendship and relationship grew once she was 15, and by the time she was 17 they were engaged to be married. 2 weeks after he 18th they were, and his family retired to the coast for his mothers health, leaving the business to him and his new wife. They were the happiest couple in the area, the business was thriving, Grace was pregnant with their first child, things couldn't be better. But cholera hit their borough, they were both caught ill and Grace lost the baby. But the worst of it was to come, Louis didn't regain his health and he passed to the Lord too.
Grace was in a state of shock, her brothers came to her aid of course, along with the rest of the family. But she just continued her work, but she was just gliding through life. Her fire had gone out, the patrons noticed it, everyone did. But they daren't ask her about it, she was grieving. It wasn't until 6 months after, when she happened upon some socks she had knitted for their unborn child that she finally broke down. The weight lifted from her then, she is not completely over it of course, even 2 years later, but she has learnt to accept it and move on with her life for the time being. Absorbing herself in the business that her husband left to her to run.
