welcome

Welcome to Victorian London, England! The year is 1843, and the era is in its peak. The Industrial Revolution has just started, but most technology is still in its dark days. Here on "This World of Woe", all characters help to create site-wide plots that will cycle in and out of play as the game goes on. We do not have an over-all plot with a set "end game". The focus of the site will be on the characters and their lives, and each mini-plot that comes along can affect them in some way should the player wish it. We are fun, friendly, and inclusive! Join our community today! If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to talk to anyone in the cbox!

THE CITY OF LONDON
[ ]&& THE EAST END (3 sub-boards)
The East End of London is also recognized as being home to the poorest population in the city. Housing accommodations are crowded, unclean, and disorderly. Crime is rampant because no officials take the population seriously, and much of it goes unpunished. Most jobs are factory jobs which have poor safety regulation and child labor. Despite working hard, it seems the people are never rewarded. Sadly, there isn't much hope for those in these conditions to move out of their current situation unless they are fortunate enough to marry into the working or merchant class. The one source of fun is the tavern which is also known to be a local artist hang-out. The art world is competitive, and only a select few move on to have their name recognized, even briefly. Some residents try to make ends meet by becoming involved in the world of theatre. However, to those who are ambitious and willing to break a few laws, here is also where the black-market flourishes. Those involved with it can put themselves in danger for the chance to make coin. It's a hard life for the people in the East End, but sadly, this is where many of the London Residents live, even if they try to pretend like they don't.

[ ]&& CENTRAL LONDON (4 sub-boards)

Central London is one of the most popular destinations for travelers because it is home to London's Grand Plaza marketplace and some of the greatest entertainment to be found in the Bryton Theatre. It's a city that never seems to sleep. Shops are known to stay open late, and the theatre performances carry on into the early morning. There is never a lack of something to do. The residents, mainly the working class and merchants, have to quickly grow accustomed to the noise level in order to ever have a chance at a peaceful sleep. However, you will find nobles and the poor in London, for it's truly a gathering place for all. Many a person will come to London, hoping to find his or her fame and glory, but most will find themselves shunned to the East End. Many shops do not offer room for growth; they are family owned with the ownership passing down generation to generation. But, that's not to say that the wicked and cunning may be unable to find a way to work around this. Some artists will find their home at the theatre working as understudies, cast members, or constructing the settings. Only a luck few make it to the top and have the city's recognition. The majority of the population fades into the background, continuing on with their daily lives and menial tasks. The City of London is unforgiving, yet to its citizens, it is home.

[ ]&& THE WEST END (3 sub-boards)
The West End is known as housing some of the most famous and wealthy people of London. A majority of the residents are nobility, though some of the wealthier merchants and tycoons have also found themselves able to purchase housing accommodations. It is common to see carriages in this part of town, as most of those who reside here use them for transportation. Attractions include the park, library, and famous museum. Many of society's members create their own fun by holding balls, hunting parties, and other events at their estate. However, there is a shopping district in which those with the coin can purchase extravagant items and services. Artists dream of being able to sell their work on this side of town. Tailors aim to become a coveted designer for the wealthy. Chefs want to be able to cook in the famous restaurants. Yes, just because this part of town is where the extremely wealthy live doesn't mean that they are the only ones who compose its citizens. Those with the talent, skill, and luck, can also find themselves at home in the West End.

[ ]&& SURROUNDING AREAS (3 sub-boards)
When a person needs to get away from the pressures and duties of society, it is often recommended that they take a trip to the areas that surround the city. Whether a romantic getaway, recovering from illness, or simply needing to lay low, it is well known that leaving the city temporarily is for the best. Just outside of the city lays the countryside including farmlands and small villages with the occasional estate home. There is also a large lake which has been the subject of many a romantic story and is a favorite among young lovers wishing to escape the watchful eye of their care-givers. The pier is known as a very popular proposal spot, and those not wishing to be exposed to romantic notions may wish to avoid this area. The dark forests are perfect hunting grounds for gentlemen of sport, and the trails provide a lovely area for ladies to ride on horseback. Visitors can stay overnight in one of the many lodges, making it a wonderful getaway from loves and singles alike.
