Katherine, for the most part, is egocentric and rather stubborn. She likes being adored by those around her whether they're friends, family, strangers or acquaintances and feels very put out when she's not adored. Most would say this stems from her childhood - her father was an abusive Lord, drunk on his self-assumed power. Seeing as Katherine was always willful it drove her father crazy. Her mother was beaten into submission before Katherine was born and the fact that Katherine never broke was almost a personal insult to him. Lust is her favourite of the deadly sins along with pride and she likes exercising both of those. She's rather good at feigning emotion, pretending to care about others, but in the end her agenda becomes clear. Few people have made a real impression on Katherine and though she's good at pretending the reality is that she suffers whenever she loses anyone - no matter how deep their connection is.
Katherine was born in what most people would call a castle in Lyon, France. Her father was a low-level scrounger. He started as a poor farmer, getting lucky when he approached a local Lord who subsequently died in the presence of Gregore Lyons. No one disputed the loss of their Lord as Gregore Lyons claimed the land and family of the deceased Lord as his own. Before Katherine's birth her father managed to get rid of the old Lord's children, a boy and a girl, no one knew what happened to them. Most speculated that he murdered the siblings, but he always swore that he'd sent them away to a sister of the old Lord. The Lord's wife, however, fell in love with Gregore Lyons - or so it seemed when they were wed and she fell pregnant with his child. Few knew of the abuse the woman put up with, abuse that finally broke her spirit and made her nothing more than a slave to Gregore. She bore him two children, the first was a boy named Lucius, the second, Katherine. While Lucius was awarded every freedom the times allowed, Katherine was, for the most part, locked away in the castle. She grew up cloistered and taught the basics of life. When Katherine turned 12 she received her first beating, but her spirit grew - unlike her mother who had been broken, her stubborn nature pushed her to rebel against her father. Slipping out of the castle at random. Soon she was the talk of the town, joining in with the village performers as well as the riff-raff in their multiple exploits. Through the villagers she learned to read and write basics as well as various farming chores. Through these exploits she met a man who passed through the town. The villagers warned Katherine against any attachment to the man but she was enthralled. Andras McGree had an air of power and treated Katherine like gold. Though he was rarely in the village Katherine thought of him more often than not – when he returned he would shower her with gifts from all the foreign cities he’d visited. He held a power and grace Katherine had never seen in any man, least of all her father who she’d held as a man in a position of high power. After several years the man started an accelerated his attentions on Katherine. Courting her and even approaching her father for her hand in marriage. Of course, when Gregore first met the stranger he immediately saw the man’s worth and set out to exploit Andras’ interests in Katherine. Though Andras confided in Katherine that Gregore’s actions were less than honourable he nonetheless provided everything Gregore wanted. This caused hatred to grow in Katherine as she wished for nothing more than to be whisked away by Andras and her father was hampering that action with his greed. Katherine’s parents had long since shared the same bedroom; she knew when he was alone and most vulnerable, but even though he’d been a brute most of her life Katherine decided to appeal to her father to let the marriage go ahead. Instead of a conversation Katherine received a beating the likes of which she’d never experienced. Her father berated her for her lack of apparent respect. Andras returned that same night to call on Katherine and found her in her room. At the sight of her Andras flew into a rage, immediately ordering his man-servant to confiscate all the “gifts” he’d given Gregore as well as pack up Katherine’s scant belongings. He took her away that night and Katherine never saw her family again with her human eyes. She stayed with Andras for a year before his disappearances during daylight hours finally got to her enough for her to mention it to him. At night he was the most devoted and caring but she was always alone during the day. Andras shared his secret in fear of losing her. He was a vampire. From that moment on Katherine had endless questions and eventually started asking Andras, every night, to turn her, to make her like him. At first he refused, saying he wouldn’t curse her the same way he’d been cursed. After spending so many months getting exactly what she wanted and then being rejected on the thing she claimed was the thing she wanted most she threatened to leave for the first time… It was in desperation to keep Katherine happy that Andras gave in and turned her, sitting with her through the pain-filled hours that followed. Unlike Andras’ account of his transformation Katherine loved every second after the change was done. The pain faded and she was a new-“born” vampire – Andras had given her a gift she could never have expected or dreamed of, a whole new life. He taught her all he knew about being what they were until Katherine finally started teaching him a few things in return. She’d felt like his teachings had carried on forever and wanted to get out of their small holding and travel to the places he’d always told her about before they’d wed. Andras had told her of other vampires and warned her all through his instruction process that not all of them would smile on the idea of a new vampire, but – as always – she insisted and soon he took her travelling. Their first trip was to her homeland, where she found the old castle basically falling apart. Her mother, brother and father were nowhere to be seen. All their belongings had been either scattered or taken as they passed bits of the household lying broken on the grounds. Although there was no love lost between Katherine and her father she’d always felt particularly attached to her brother and her mother. Andras assured Katherine that they would find her family – though he admitted that finding her father at that point might not happen. They found her mother and brother in one of the small villages not too far from the old castle. Her brother was a farmer who took care of their mother. Seeing the pain in her mother Katherine turned away. She sent them riches to make them more comfortable but never went back. She also had no curiosity as to her father’s whereabouts. Andras never understood her reluctance to reunite with her family but enjoyed the fact that the experience with her family didn’t steal away her passion for living her new life. They travelled for years and years, experiencing the world in new ways whenever the world changed. They never met any other vampires, even though Katherine knew these others sometimes watched their path through the cities. After a hundred years of travelling and experiencing they returned to Andras’ home and settled in for a few years of rest. Their third night home however, was marred by the arrival of a band of vampires. They washed over the house, killing all the servants and pillaging whatever stores and rooms they entered. Katherine and Andras fled but each turn they took was blocked by more vampires. They were forced to the roof of the building where Andras was surrounded and torn limb from limb. Katherine, in a desperate attempt to get away from the raiders, jumped off the building, using her vampire strength to survive the jump. When she landed she didn’t waste any time in running. She made her way to Ireland, where she found that even though a vampire could have nothing, the slump wouldn’t last long. She started building up her own fortune and soon found a home where she would be safe. She started travelling again before long and spent the next hundred years doing exactly that with no incidents until she finally stopped in the vibrant city of London, England.
